The Raleigh Jazz
Orchestra is not-for-profit arts
institution in collaboration with the Raleigh Symphony. Our goal is to
create professional performance opportunities for jazz musicians
and to preserve and promote our nation's indigenous art
form, jazz.
The RJO was
organized as a not for profit arts
institution in January, 2003 in
collaboration with the Raleigh Symphony to create professional performance opportunities for
jazz musicians. Our mission is to preserve and promote our
nation's indigenous art form, jazz.
The RJO is a professional jazz
ensemble under the direction of Dr. Neal
Finn consisting of the finest jazz musicians
in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. We perform music from the
entire history of big band jazz and feature local jazz vocalist
Susan Reeves.Our
vast musical library includes charts from early Swing to
driving Big Band and original compositions.
The RJO is working to create
a jazz concert series where great jazz can be presented,
enjoyed and honored; Music of the some the great jazz masters like
Kenton, Ellington, Basie, Miller, Dorsey and Herman. One of our
goals is to form a Jazz Society to work with the board of the
Raleigh Symphony to help support big band jazz. We are
working to find people and corporations in this area who
love and want to support live jazz, then rent a hall or an outdoor
venue and sell tickets to catered jazz concerts; not just sit down
and listen concerts but food, drink, dance and fun. This is how jazz
was originally presented; America's true dance music!
